1st Communion Update

June 5, 2020

Re: First Communion Families

I hope you are doing well during these uncertain times. Please know of our continued prayers for you and your families.

I would like to offer an update for you as it pertains to 1st Communions. We realize that there are we have a lot of young people who are anxious to encounter the Lord at His table.  And we are just as eager to help them to get there as soon as possible.

We have been patiently waiting to see if some of the social distancing restrictions might be lifted to allow us to host the 1st Communion Liturgy as it has been held in the years past. However, in conversations with the Diocese, who is for the safety of all, staying aligned with the CDC and their distancing guidelines. We at this time, and for the foreseeable future, will maintain the current distancing guidelines.  These guidelines permit us to seat a maximum of 100 people in our church building at any one time.

With that information, Fr. Mark and I have discussed the best options for our community, and in light of the time of year we are currently in, approaching summer and the onset of family vacations, we have decided on the following.

We will have Two 1st Communion Masses

  • Saturday, October 3, 2020 at 12:30pm
  • Saturday, October 10, 2020 at 12:30pm

Reservations

  • Communicant’s Parent will need to call the Rectory (219-659-0023) after June 15th to reserve a spot at one of the listed dates for their 1st Communicant and guests (maximum of 3 plus the Communicant)
  • Reservations / Seating is available for up to 22 Communicants and their guests at each Mass
  • All 1st Communicants paperwork must be in my office before the reservation can be made.
  • The Mass will be Live Streamed for the family members who are unable to attend. Visit our Parish website for the Communion mass Link as time approaches, www.stjohnbap.org

As the time approaches more information will be provided

We are aware that this date is quite some time away. We also realize that this is not the perfect solution for all. However, for the safety and the integrity of the Sacrament the Children are preparing to receive, we do believe this is the best decision.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me directly.

Peace and Blessings,

Mrs. Sandona
